Primary Time: June 2008 Sharing Time Theme

This month the theme for sharing time is “The temple is a blessing for me and my family.” The song is “I Love to See the Temple.” The scripture is “And verily I say unto you, let this house be built unto my name, that I may reveal mine ordinances therein unto my people” (Doctrine and Covenants 124:40).

The theme is divided into four principles the first principle focuses on living worthily to be able to attend the temple. The second principle teaches the children that tithing is used to help build the temples. The third principle teaches about the importance of doing missionary work. The fourth principle focuses on being reverent in the temple and showing respect to others and ourselves.

You can teach your children about the temples by talking about how the temple has blessed your life. There is a great activity on temples in this month’s Friend. You can also have your children complete the coloring page. You can help your children learn to recognize the different temples by having a matching game that involves the temples. If you have a temple near your house, you may decide to go and visit the temple grounds as a family.

You can also discuss the importance of doing family history work, and if your children are old enough visit the family history center in your stake. You may just choose to share stories of your ancestors to help your children understand more about their heritage. You can also spend a little bit of time talking about tithing.

You may want to spend time discussing the importance of living temple worthy at all times. This is a great discussion to have with your older children as well. Living this way will help your children to avoid the pitfalls that come with sin. You may want to talk about how we are blessed as we choose to keep the commandments.
