Primary Time: March 2008 Sharing Time Theme

The theme for Sharing Time is “Jesus Christ is my Savior.” The scripture to accompany the theme is 1 John 4:14: “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the World.” The song this month is “If the Savior Stood Beside Me.” This song is not found in the Children’s Songbook, but you can find it in the October 1993 Friend.

The theme is divided into four principles. The first principle focuses on the Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world. The second principle speaks of Jesus love for each of us and that the Atonement allows us to repent. The third principle focuses on Jesus Christ showing us how to do the will of Heavenly Father. The final principle emphasizes that Jesus Christ is still living today.

This is a wonderful theme to incorporate into your discussions about Easter. It is important to help your children understand how much the Savior loves them and how important He is in the plan of Salvation. There is an activity for your older children to complete about the theme. You can also use the coloring page in your family home evening lessons.

Additionally you may want to spend time this month review stories from the New Testament. You can read stories about the teachings of Christ and end with reading the account of His resurrection on Easter. You may challenge your older primary children to pray that they may gain a testimony of the Savior. You can also talk about ways that they can see the Savior’s hand in their lives.

I love the Easter season. It is a wonderful time to remember the many blessings that the Atonement gives each us. It is also a time to think about new beginnings and a time to start fresh. You may want to talk to your children about focusing on one thing they want to start fresh on or you may have them spend time contemplating the gift of repentance.
