The sharing time theme for October is “I show my faith in Jesus Christ when I share the gospel with others.” The scripture is Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before your men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” There is no specific song this month since the Sacrament program is soon.
The theme is broken down into four basic principles. The first principle talks about being an example to others. The second principle speaks about how sharing your testimony with others makes it stronger. The third principle encourages the children to invite their friends to Primary. The fourth principle focuses on preparing to be a missionary.
The October issue of the Friend includes an outline and game for family home evening that focuses on sharing the gospel. You may also want to share stories about a time that you have shared the gospel with others. You can also complete the coloring page with your family as part of the family home evening lesson. You may want your older children to write their testimonies in Books of Mormon to give to the missionaries. If you have a child out on a mission, you can also spend time writing a special letter to him.
You may want to encourage your children to share the gospel with others this month. My daughter came home from church on Sunday and gave a pass-along card to her friends in the neighborhood. I was proud that she took the initiative to share the gospel in that way. In many ways she is much bolder than I am. I can learn from her example.
You may want to start including a missionary moment in your family home evening lessons or at your family council meetings. This would encourage your children to share the gospel with those around them. Additionally you may want to pray as a family for the opportunity to share the gospel with someone you know. You can have the missionaries over one night this month and discuss different ways that you can share the gospel with those around you.
