As I was looking for ideas to write about, I stumbled across the theme for Primary. I did not know that Primary had a theme, but I really liked it. The theme is from 3 Nephi 22:13. “All they children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Isn’t that a beautiful statement and thought. Primary really is a place that children go to learn about the Lord, and that knowledge can bring peace into their lives.
As parents it is important to take the time to teach our children about the Lord. This can be done in simple every day ways. You can teach your children as you read the scriptures to them. You can teach them as you pray together. You can teach your children in the way that you treat them. If you treat them with love and respect, then they will know that the Lord loves them.
As a Primary teacher you have the opportunity to teach children about the Lord each week. It is important that you take time to bear your testimony of the gospel, and how it can bless their lives. You can stand as another witness of Christ in the lives of these children. As you review principles that are taught at home, the children’s testimonies will be strengthened.
It is important to realize the foundation that we are laying now. Children need to learn that Heavenly Father loves them. They need to learn the commandments. They need to learn that if they make a mistake they can repent. They need to learn the path that they should take to return to live with Heavenly Father again. Primary can help them learn these things. Primary is a support system to the family. It should strengthen the teaching that is already occurring there.
I am grateful for the leaders that I had in Primary. I am also grateful for the teachers who are teaching my children. Even after they are released, they are still an example to my children. My daughter loves to visit with her past Primary teachers each week. I am grateful that they are so patient in speaking with her. I know that their testimonies have helped to strengthen hers.
