Princess or Pirate? It’s Time for a Little Disney Halloween Magic

That we’re not even into September and already Halloween candy, decorations and costumes are making their way into the stores is a little disturbing. However, last year at this time, we were planning our October anniversary vacation to Disney World. Of all the times of year to visit Disney World, October is one of my all time favorites.

Why, are you asking?

Simply put – it’s one of the most magical places on Earth to spend Halloween. Throughout the month of October, the Magic Kingdom and other parks. Costumes are a large part of it as you get to visit the parks for their Magic Kingdom After Dark and more

Dressed up in her Belle costume, my daughter was able to enjoy not only the unique Halloween parades and the dancing ghouls from the Haunted Mansion. Some of the characters came along to pass candy out to the waiting children lining the parade route. She also got to trick or treat her way through the various areas around the park and collect candy, prizes and more.

Halloween at Disney World

Now, not only do we celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday, but also that rite of fall known as Halloween – October is one of the best months to visit the Disney World parks. The weather can be tricky, because the heat and humidity is still present, but it’s not suffocating hot like it is during the summer.

If you’re worried about the hurricane season, remember that the parks are often prepared for these eventualities and you should discuss emergency arrangements with your resort or travel agent prior to going. I’ve been there for three Octobers and this year, we can’t make it – but we are planning to go again next year.

Disney Costumes

In the meanwhile, you don’t have to go to Disney World to pick up an authentic costume. The Disney Stores and the Disney Online store will also be featuring everything from the Little Mermaid to Captain Jack Sparrow to Davy Jones and magical pixies including Tinker Bell and others.

Their deluxe costumes and accessories are more real than ever and look less like faux costumes and more like they jumped right off the screen. After two years of being Belle, my daughter is considering a turn as Jesse, the cowgirl coming right out of Toy Story 2 – oh and for those of you with children who love authenticity – check out the new hard shoes to go with your costumes. They’re perfect for letting your little one maintain their personal costumed image while at the same time protecting their feet and keeping them comfortable on the move.

What is your favorite aspect of a Disney Halloween?
