Priorities and People

One of the things that we as members of the church need to do is take the time to meditate and contemplate the gospel. As we do this it is also important to consider if our actions match our priorities. Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to reflect on whether my current actions fit my priorities. I have also considered whether or not my priorities are in line with what the Lord wants me to do.

It is amazing how easy it is to get off track by becoming wrapped up in the daily tasks of life. The enormity of what must be accomplished each day can be overwhelming. (At least it can be to me as I adjust to having three children—the laundry alone is overwhelming.) It is too easy to let a day rush by without doing the most important things.

As I thought about it, I realized that the most important things are not the mundane household tasks that I face each day. It is not how many articles I write or how many books I read. It can not be numbered with a set of specific tasks. In fact the most important things I do each day are to nourish the relationships in my life.

The relationships that I need to focus on are my relationship with the Savior, as well as making time to nourish my relationship with my husband and each one of my children. If I make the time each day to make sure that each member of my family feels loved and appreciated, then I have had a successful day. I also need to make sure that I nourish my relationship with my Savior so that I can have the strength and guidance that I need each day.

This realization has helped me to find comfort as I struggle to complete everything on my to do list. I know that if I hit those top priorities that everything else will eventually fall into place. This is bringing peace to my heart at this time.
