Private Justice — Terri Blackstock

justice I love my life. I get to sit here at my computer, telling all of you how much I love books, and which ones I have enjoyed the most. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

On that note, I would like to introduce you to the Newpointe 911 series by Terri Blackstock. In volume one of this series, called “Private Justice,” we meet the men and women who comprise the emergency services team in a small Louisiana town. All are volunteers who have to keep their day jobs in order to bring home a paycheck, but all are committed to protecting their community and families.

But something is horribly wrong in this town. One of the firemen’s wives has been murdered, and then another. A third has barely escaped an attempt on her life. It’s clear that the wives are being targeted; for what reason, they don’t know. Mark Branning is afraid that his wife Allie will be the next target.

Mark and Allie’s marriage has been on the rocks for some time. She is reluctant to let him protect her, but he knows it’s the only way to keep her safe. Against her will, she puts her trust in him again, and in God, a big step for her, as her faith has been weakened.

Slowly, the firefighters start putting the pieces together and close in on the killer. When he is revealed, their whole community is shaken, and everything they thought they knew is destroyed.

The Library Journal said, “This tense and exciting thriller is more than a fabulous read; it has an underlying message about the place of religion within a marriage. Highly recommended.”

A Christian novel, sometimes the phraseology is a little bit unfamiliar to me as a Mormon, but the truths contained are the same regardless of how they’re worded. I loved this book and immediately headed back out to get the next book in the series. Keep your eyes open for that review.
