We don’t tend to think of decorative pieces as dangerous but Home Decorators Collection has decided to recall over 500 pieces just to make sure they don’t pose a danger to anyone. There have not been any reports of injuries thus far, but the company is issuing a recall in order to help keep it that way. It seems that some manufacturers ignore such warning signs, so I say good for this company for doing something now to try to prevent injury –or tragedy- from occurring.
The leather suitcase storage trunks in question may be burgundy or brown and they are attractive decorator items. The problem is that the clasp on the outside may inadvertently lock when the top of trunk is closed. If a child were to play with such a trunk, perhaps climbing inside, he or she may become stuck inside. The clasp could latch keeping the lid tightly closed, which would entrap the child and potentially cause suffocation.
Small, medium, and large trunks sold for $60-190 between the beginning of 2006 and November of that year. Anyone who owns one of these trunks can find more information by checking the Consumer Product Safety Commission website for more details. You can also check to see if you have an item included in this or other recalls, or report a different product that you have concerns regarding.
You can also contact Home Decorators Collection by visiting their website or using the information provided on the CPSC page. Find out if your product is affected by the recall. You may be eligible for a replacement or refund.
