Did you know that the pumpkins are just waiting to attack your home? It’s true. Just read on to find out how to protect your valuables.
Fall is a wonderful time, but just look out for those pumpkins. No, not in a night-of-the-living-dead kind of way. That would be silly. I bet you had visions of crazy monster pumpkins with pointy teeth when you first started reading this article, didn’t you?
What I am really talking about when I talk about protecting your home is all of those very real stains that pumpkins can cause when they start to mold and decay. It can happen anywhere, from the front stoop to your expensive dining room table. That black stain will serve as a reminder of the season for many years to come.
Here are some ways to protect your home.
The first thing you should do before placing your pumpkins anywhere is to place something under your pumpkin. Plastic plates or a plastic tablecloth work well. You want something that is liquid proof. If you don’t like the look of a plate under the pumpkin, decorate it by adding small gourds or colorful leaves to hide the plate from view.
If you already have a stain, here are some tips on removing it.
For the outdoors, if you have a stain on a porch or concrete sidewalk, try using oven cleaner (test it on the porch first in a small spot within the stain). Spray the cleaner and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then scrub it with a brush and rinse it. Make sure you have a cool day when you are doing this, and don’t let kids or pets anywhere near the cleaner.
For a wooden table or other indoor wooden surface, apply some toothpaste to the stain. Use only the non-gel kind. Use a damp cloth and rub it in a circular motion. Rinse it off with another damp cloth. Then apply a little lemon oil to the spot.
Happy Harvest!
