Protecting Yourself

There are a lot of creeps out there. I know this because I’m pretty sure I’ve dated almost all of them. As a single mom, the stakes are a little higher than someone who hasn’t had children before. You’re not just dating for you; you’re dating for them as well. This means you have a lot of weight on your shoulders. It is your responsibility to protect both you and your children as you venture out into the dating world.

Always meet in a public place and whether you trust them or not don’t give them your personal information. Be clear about your expectations and trust your instincts. If something isn’t sitting right with you, don’t second guess that feeling. We are blessed with mother’s intuition when it comes to the safety of our children.

In some cases it is even crucial to protect yourself post-dating. I have had exes try to come back into the picture on multiple occasions after I have been clear that they were never to contact me again. In cases like these it is just as important to take precautions to keep you and your family safe. Keep your doors locked. If it continues you may have to take more serious legal action. The important thing is that you and your children are protected.

We live in a dark world. It is disheartening that we have to take such precautions at all, but when it comes to the safety of your family it is always better to be safe than sorry. Your children are depending on you to make the best possible decisions for them. As parents that is a big responsibility, this is why it is so crucial to trust your motherly instincts when it comes to keeping your children out of harm’s way. Trust yourself, you’ll never be more grateful you did.
