Buying a new computer for your home based business is easy, all you have to do is figure out what you need to buy and where to buy it right? Yeah, sure that’s simple, for some people, but for the rest of us, that can seem like an overwhelming task! With all of the new technology that emerges each and every day, sometimes, it is hard to decide what’s enough and what is too much, especially for those of you on a budget. Realistically, the computers you need for most home business needs are the very same ones you see in everyday sale ads. For most average home businesses, you do not need the computers that are specially configured for businesses.
Look carefully at all of the display models, and read their specifications. Decide which features are wants, and which features are musts. For example, a DVD-ROM might add quite a bit to the price of a new computer, but do you need to be able to watch DVDs on your business computer? Frankly, if you’re watching DVD’s, you probably aren’t doing what you should be doing, which is working on running your business! For most people, having the newest, fastest, and best is unnecessary. A key thing to remember is that most newer computers have at least twice the power they need to run standard office software, like word processors, spreadsheets, contact managers, and accounting programs. It would be a good idea to look for a computer that comes with as many of the programs you need already installed as you can get. This will save you money since you won’t have to purchase these titles separately. At the very least, you will want a productivity suite, like Microsoft Office. For your marketing needs, you will probably want to get a desktop publishing program as well.
