Last week I wrote Comparing Online Pet Sites: Dogster and Catster vs. PetPop.com. I had deduced that both sites were fairly similar but each also had their own distinct flair.
Well, this week I have the honor of presenting to you an interview I conducted with Anthony Ngo, a Service Representative for PetPop.com. I asked him directly what makes PetPop.com different and he certainly provided wonderful insight on that.
So without further ado, I present to you the interview.
Courtney Mroch: When did PetPop.com launch?
Anthony Ngo: PetPop.com launched in June of 2006.
CM: How many members do you have so far?
AN: So far, we have 3,000+ members and over 6,000 registered pets.
CM: Why PetPop.com for the name? What does it mean/represent? (If anything.) Basically, how was it that name was created?
AN: First, we wanted to make sure the name stood out and that it was easy to remember. Almost all of today’s top companies have a unique, yet simple name, like Yahoo, Google, eBay and many more. As you already know, our slogan is “Where Pets Are Popular” and we wanted to emphasize that through the site’s name, so we came up with PetPop. Of course, the “pop” in PetPop was short for popular. As for the meaning of the name, every pet owner in some way, form or manner thinks of their pet or pets as the coolest, so we wanted to give them a platform to show them off.
CM: How does PetPop.com differ from Catster and Dogster? Does it offer anything they don’t?
AN: In a world where consumers continuously demand for creativity and innovation, PetPop.com has the insight to offer them a website that they can customize at their own disposal. From the overall look and appearance, to music, slideshows, a guestbook, and many other widgets, users can illustrate their creativity through their pet’s page. We also boast many other features that we’re definitely proud of, like our panel of health experts for our PetPop Healthy section. Experts like Andrea Arden, who is a certified pet dog trainer, and has written five books related to dogs and has even appeared on shows like 20/20, Dateline NBC, The View and many more. Christie Shaver, a licensed pet nutrition and founder of The Healthy Pet Gourmet. Brent Hinton, who is the co-founder and CEO of PetFirst Healthcare, and is the perfect outlet for questions or advice on keeping your pet healthy; and last but not least, Christine Agro, who graduated from the School of Natural Medicine in Colorado where she received degrees in Naturopathy, Herbs and Iridology. Christine is a renowned expert and speaker on the subject of natural and inner healing, as well as the use of essences, homeopathy and other forms of natural cures for healing humans as well as her more extensive work with animals. Another feature is our newly added Pet Sitting Exchange section, which allows members to search for owners who are willing to look after their pets and offer the same in return.
CM: When do you expect other parts of the website that are still forthcoming (like the pet adoption center) to be up and running?
AN: Our target date for the Pet Adoption Center is next week or the following week after that, so our members should expect to see it up soon.
CM: Thanks for your time and a wonderful interview, Anthony!
