Recently I wrote a post about missing chemical laden cleaners and I still do. As crazy as it sounds I miss the smell, and I also feel that those cleaners get my house cleaner. I know that is probably just years of marketing drummed in my head but it’s hard to undo all that programming. I’m trying to get over it but I still covet that piney clean smell.
Today I did a quick run through of the house, wiping down the kitchen and bathrooms because there has been a pretty steady stream of people stopping by and I want to make sure everything looks nice. To do this quick wipe down I grabbed my trusty vinegar and water spray bottle and a box of baking soda. It really is easier not to mention cheaper just to use these two basic cleaners, and it’s something that I always have in the house.
Using just these two things makes cleanup much faster, just being able to spray everything down with one bottle instead of multiple ones cuts cleanup time. The best thing about vinegar and water is that it works for everything. I can use it to clean the outside of the toilet, the inside of the sink and the bathroom mirror. I haven’t found a glass cleaner that is as streak free as straight vinegar, with other glass cleaners no matter how much I wipe, I still see streaks. It’s nice to know that no matter what gets sprayed with my trusty spray bottle, it’s safe, there isn’t a chemical in it that shouldn’t be used on some surfaces. Vinegar can be used for everything.
I’m still not happy about the vinegar smell but the fact that cleanup is so much faster when I’m not carting around a basket of different supplies, switching bottles for each surface, makes up for it, a little.
