Decorating for the holidays can be a tiresome chore. We want our house to look festive and decorative, but it can be costly all the same. It doesn’t have to be! You can do a lot of different things around your home to bring the festivity of the holiday to every corner without breaking the bank each time!
The Table:
– When decorating your Thanksgiving table, think colors. Browns, yellows, oranges, and reds are what symbolizes the season.
– Use food for decorating. Pumpkins, gourds, grapes, pomegranates, apples and other items are perfect for a Thanksgiving table.
– Use clusters of grapes on your table and add fallen leaves and mini pumpkins to the mix. If you want to save more money, try purchasing these items at a craft store to be reused year after year.
– Drape a solid table cloth over your table in a rich autumn color. Use contrasting colors to coordinate the centerpiece, candlesticks and other items on your table.
The Door:
– A wreath is a nice touch for any season. You can make your own or purchase a store bought one.
– Using a swag on your front door is just as easy as a wreath.
– Create a wooden sign and paint leaves or fall pictures on it. This can hang on your door in place of a wreath or swag.
– Drape fake leaf strands around lights on your front porch.
– Cluster different sized pumpkins on a bed of leaves in the corner of your porch. Add gourds and other items for color.
The Living Areas:
– Bowls can be filled with acorns, dried leaves, apples or anything else that is seasonal.
– Purchase scented candles for cheap at the dollar store with seasonal scents – pumpkin spice, apple pie, and other scents can be had for very minimal cost and will scent up the house nicely.
– Place floating candles in a big glass bowl filled with water. Use floating candles in the colors of the season to make this more festive.
– Drape leaf swags and other items across surfaces – fireplace mantel, coffee tables, end tables, etc.
– Purchase or sew throw pillows in autumn colors.
– Break out a fall colored blanket and drape it across the back of the sofa.
– Try decorating with art. Using my articles about wall art, create some fall prints and hang them in place of the everyday stuff you have up already.
No matter what you do, it’s not difficult to add some seasonal festivity for no money or very little money!
