The first few weeks of the new school year are always very hectic for all parties involved, from the teacher, to the student and home again to the parent. There are forms to fill out, supplies to get and events to attend. Here are a few quick tips to make your first few weeks of school much easier.
Everything Needs a Place
Clutter is almost a guarantee as the school year begins and papers start coming home. Setting up a homework station that is stocked with sharpened pencils, pens and erasers, paper and other supplies is a great way to make homework time easier. In addition, I recommend having a file system or folder to put important papers, information sheets, schedules and other information.
Fill It Out Now
If something arrives in the mail that needs to be filled out, or your child brings it home during his first week of school, fill it out as soon as possible. Getting it back early saves the hassle for you and the teacher. Double check information to be certain it is correct and accurate, especially if it is in regards to emergency information or contact information.
Keep In Touch
I have yet to meet a teacher who doesn’t appreciate parental involvement. They encourage parents to be a part of their childrens’ education. If your child’s teacher provides you with a phone number or email address, don’t hesitate to contact her from the very start. More than anything, she is going to appreciate understanding your child’s needs, seeing you be an active part in your child’s education and make any future contacts all the easier for her to make.
