Rain Rain Go Away, Part 2

Recently we got caught in the rain when we were leaving a store after an awesome play day. I hate rain with every fiber of my being. I’m a Southern California native with an end of July birthday. I love the sun and the heat. California and Texas are both draught states that need rain. I know we need rain desperately, but I still hate rain. I especially hate being caught in the rain with an infant and a toddler.

I was not prepared for the downpour we found ourselves in after a successful shopping trip at Kohl’s. I got the car unlocked and Jessie into her seat. I ran around to the other side of the car to grab an umbrella and get the baby into her seat. Looking back I should have closed Jessie’s door even though she wasn’t strapped in.

I threw my phone, keys, and glasses on the front seat to get them out of the rain. I put the huge bags with the picture frames in the back and then had to get everything else out of the stroller. Normally I would put the diaper bag up front with me, but the rain was too heavy so I threw it in the trunk with the bags. The worst casualty was Blanket and Tiger, which were under the stroller.

Finally I got the car packed and Jessie strapped in. I was soaked but relieved to be inside and out of the rain. Everything on the drive home seemed to be OK until I turned around to look at and give Jessie a pat. She was distraught. She was soaked. Blanket and Tiger were soaked. Her new Llama was soaked. She was not happy. She was a bit better after we got home and put her things in the dryer and changed clothes.
