A few years ago I was addicted to purchasing clothes online. I’ve never really been a fan of crowded stores or crowded malls and got really excited about my new ability to scroll through pages upon pages of fantastic clothing items and with the click of a button have all of my selections sent to my house. Back to School shopping was made much easier by the internet in my opinion.
Five years ago I was shopping for T-shirts on my computer monitor, for this back to school season Ralph Lauren is allowing you to use the window of their store as your computer screen.
The clothing giants New York stores will have a variety of items literally projected onto the stores front glass window taking window shopping to an entirely new level. Shoppers will be able to shop around the clock by clicking on items in the window and swiping a credit card in the attached card reader.
The display only has sixty seven items, which is hardly all of Ralph Laurens inventory, but that shouldn’t stop some shoppers from heading out to click on the big screen. The “window shops” will be open at Ralph Laurens New York stores through September 10th, afterwards the company will decide whether or not to remove them, or add them to additional stores.
To be this display seems almost like a movie. I live in North Carolina, so chances are I won’t encounter Ralph Laurens window stores anytime soon, the idea of them still intrigues me however. It will be interesting to see how many people head out to the store to “window shop”, and how many of those people will do so after hours. I’ve often longed for quality clothing shopping options after 9 here, but shopping on the big screen I think might frighten me a little.
How long do you think it will be before we’re picking out our underwear on the window of Victoria Secret?
