“Ramona’s World” by Beverly Cleary

Ramona Quimby was nine years old. She had brown hair, brown eyes, and no cavities. She had a mother, a father, a big sister named Beatrice who was called Beezus by the family, and — this was the exciting part — a baby sister named Roberta after her father, Robert Quimby.

“Ramona’s World” — the last book in the series about Ramona Quimby — is full of yet another year in Ramona’s life. This time she deals with a new baby sister, fourth grade, and gets a new best friend who understands her better than anyone. Age nine proves to be an exciting year from Ramona and Beverly Cleary was kind enough to allow readers to share it with her.

Fourth grade starts well for Ramona — almost. The whole class gets to write paragraphs about themselves so that their new teacher can get to know them better. Mrs. Meacham picks one paragraph to read aloud and guess who it belongs to? Ramona also meets a wonderful girl named Daisy Kidd and they become instant friends. Ramona is ecstatic about fourth grade, until…

Ramona has so much fun with her new best friend Daisy. She even gets invited over to Daisy’s house after school one day. Ramona feels like such a big kid, getting to ride a different bus! There are so many fun things to do at Daisy’s house! She has a big brother named Jeremy and they have a dog named Mutley and a cat named Clawed. Since the Kidds are still unpacking from the move, Ramona and Daisy have fun popping bubble wrap for a while. After having a snack of juice pops, they vacuum the cat — which he loves! What a fun place! But the next time Ramona goes over to Daisy’s house, something disastrous happens and Ramona fears that she will never be allowed over again.

So once again Ramona has many troubles, real and imagined, and she gets through them with the gusto of any kid. “Ramona’s World” is the most challenging and thrilling book in the series, though unfortunately the last. You and your child will take great pride in reading through this chapter book together, sharing Ramona’s days with her.

“Ramona’s World” is available at most major booksellers, including Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Amazon.
