Read For The Record

Today children around the world are working toward setting a new world record. On August 24, children, parents and teachers everywhere will join together to read the book “The Little Engine That Could”. The idea is to have the biggest “shared reading experience ever” as well as raise money to fund Jumpstart an organization designed to help at risk pre-school students before they go to kindergarten.

Jumpstart has set up this website where you can register you and your child to count for the record, you can also purchase a copy of the Little Engine that Could and read updates on Read For The Record.

I think this sounds like a really fantastic idea. When I was younger I was always interested in anything that would have the opportunity to get me in the record books. Participating in this event would give your children the opportunity to be part of setting a record, while doing something educational that will benefit children who need it.

If you are interested in getting involved in Read For The Record there are a few good websites you can go to.

The Read For The Record Website: This is where you will register for the world record, as well as sign up to read in your community. You can also purchase a book to donate to a needy child on the site.

FunBrain: On funbrain students can read an online version of The Little Engine That Could. The site has an electronic version of the book in English and Spanish complete with pictures.

There are Read For The Record events going on all over the country. I plan on going and reading at my local library this morning. Do any of you have any plans to participate in Read For The Record?
