It was Christmas evening. The kids were nestled all snug in there beds after a busy and fun filled day of opening presents, going to church and celebrating Christmas day with family and friends.
The house was half picked up–at least the new toys and gifts were neatly stacked in a corner near the Christmas tree, if not exactly put away. The gift wrapped had all been recycled, and the dished loaded. My husband and I had settled down to relax and watch about 30 minutes of television and reflect on the day. But what to our wondering eyes should appear, but commercial after commercial for after Christmas sales.
Having made it through Christmas gift buying and getting the best deals possible, I didn’t even want to think about after Christmas sales, other than maybe on the regular stuff to put away for next year, such as gift wrap, cards, and candy.
But the ads were screaming about other items: Video games! Toys! Sweaters! All the stuff you didn’t find under the tree! Is the idea is that we should take advantage of the sales to get even more stuff.
While I love after holiday sales for items that we really could use, I admit I am a bit put off by some of the sales. If I need something specific, then of course, after Christmas sales are great, but I don’t need that much stuff. I think this is the first year that I have noticed such a hard sale on after Christmas.
Some frugal folks are smarter than I am. They have put off exchanging gifts by at least a week. This way, they can get everything discounted. Makes sense. I’ll be watching the sales on some of the items that we did purchase at the pre-Christmas sales to see if those after Christmas prices are better than the bargains and coupon codes I was able to use before Christmas.
