Ready, Set, Beach!

Nothing makes for a super sizzling hot summer vacation more than a trip to the beach. With the Memorial Day holiday weekend kicking off in just a couple of days, now is the time to set your sights on the sun, sand and surf.

If you are still in the planning stages, then consider these top family-friendly beach vacation destinations:

Texas

The great state of Texas is home to a litany of lovely beaches, including South Padre Island. The 130-mile long barrier island is a haven for spring breakers, but during the summer months you can relax minus the beer bongs and half-naked co-eds. South Padre Island offers power-soft sand, incredible sunsets and a host of excellent hotels and restaurants.
Galveston is another popular beach destination in Texas. Located about an hour from Houston, this historic city boasts 32 miles of pristine beach, as well as stunning 19th century architecture and a bevy of seasonal festivals. If you go, be sure to visit Galveston Island State Park, which is a mecca for hikers, fishing enthusiasts, and mountain bikers.

California

The “Golden State” is well-known for its famous beaches. However, you don’t have to drain your wallet to soak up the warm California sun. If you are looking to keep beach vacation costs down, then consider heading to ritzy Malibu and staying at Point Mugu State Park. The gorgeous beach offers tent camping, plus free wireless Internet access. Another way to save is to ditch the expensive beach bungalow and stay at Pismo Coast Village RV Resort. In addition to the incredible views and relaxing waterfront sites you’ll get access to Internet hookups, cable television, bike rentals, and laundry facilities.

Delaware

Yes, Delaware. Located just two hours from Washington, D.C., Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is a hugely popular stretch of sand along the Eastern Seaboard. The charming seaside town features a picturesque boardwalk which epitomizes the essence of a beach vacation. In addition to swimming, body surfing and sand sculpting, you and the rest of your family will have a blast at nearby Funland. The theme park features cheap rides, great food and live entertainment during the summer.
