About 80 Santas riding pushbikes left Vincentia last night to ride to Huskisson. The reason for all the red and white gentlemen and a few lady Santas was the annual Santa ride which first happened in 2005. The bike ride was the idea of Brenda van Heuzen and has grown a lot in the past couple of years. The cycling Santas pay $10 to enter the ride with all money raised for the Santa ride going towards the Huskisson Fire Brigade.
Bush fires are a summer hazard in Australia that occurs in NSW not only in the Blue Mountains but on the South Coast and even in areas of Sydney. I remember being at Christian Arts and Resources conference at North Parramatta many years ago when the bushfires ringed Sydney. Even though the fires were nowhere near Parramatta, the air was thick with smoke and the sun red as blood. It reminded me of the last days, Joel 2:31.
If you knew that Jesus was to return tomorrow how that would alter what you do today or tonight? If you knew Jesus would return today would you seek to change the way you were living? I always remember a favorite Evie Tornquist song, called ‘One more day.’ The lyrics raised the point about whether we would need to change anything in our lifestyle if we knew Jesus was coming back. Are you ready for that event?
Sometimes we spend so much time preparing and planning for events like Christmas and then all of a sudden it is over, the presents exchanged and unwrapped, the meal eaten and life returns to normal. We’re can be left feeling a bit flat because the excitement is over. One day Jesus will return and how much more exciting that will be. Are you ready? Are you prepared and keeping watch like the five virgins in the parable? Matthew 25:10. Or are you lax and thinking there’s plenty of time to change your ways. Will Jesus say to you what the bridegroom did to the five foolish virgins’ Truly I say to you, I do not know you,’ Matthew 25:12.
We never know. We could be one month, one week, one day away, or one minute away from Jesus’ return. How will he find you? Will he find you doing the things He wants you too. Will you feel confident to stand before Him on that day and not be ashamed? I John 2:28. It’s something for all of us to think about.
