What is your spouse’s favorite movie? Do you know? I know Mick’s favorite movie is Casablanca.
My favorite movie of all time, as Mick knew when He bought me the CD recently, is Friendly Persuasion. It’s probably no surprise to anyone that my favorite movie is very much concerned with a loving marriage and family relationships.
If you haven’t seen Friendly Persuasion can I suggest you take a look? It’s a great story about the lives of one Quaker family and the impact of the civil war on their values, lifestyle and choices.
It’s also a film with a lot of humorous moments, as these totally believable characters demonstrate how they deal with the problems and how they live with each other and their beliefs. It shows a strong picture of love, faithfulness and commitment in marriage.
Since Jessamyn West, the writer of The Friendly Persuasion the book on which the film is based, was a Quaker, you can sense this is based on real life people and the way they stand up under pressure and how they demonstrate the give and take of marriage.
This is one of those moves I have watched again and again, as Mick had taped it for me years ago. However it was lovely to sit and watch it the other night in this DVD version without any ad breaks interfering. It’s one of those great romantic movies we will watch over and over and get a lot of laughs out of and the odd tear.
It’s good to watch something that is affirming of marriage, as I get very fed up with many of the movies these days and their causal attitudes towards sex, love and marriage.
Are you able to buy a movie you know without doubt your spouse would like? It depends how well you know each other’s taste I guess.
