Real Life January Bargains

Timing can be everything when it comes to getting the best prices. By focusing on the best things to buy in any given month, you can make sure that you don’t overpay. Here is a list of the traditional best things to buy in January, along with some extra tips about items that I have observed myself this week.

Candles

Christmas clearance can be anywhere from 50 to 90 percent off in January, depending on the week, the amount of stock the store has and the type of item. To really take advantage of this clearance while avoiding stocking up on stuff only for use once a year, take a look at candles. You can often find some pretty ones that you can incorporate into your decorating year round.

Mary Ann’s tip: Check out Bed, Bath & Beyond for Yankee Candles! I spotted apple-scented ones in with the balsam and Christmas cookie scents. Priced at 50 percent off, I used an additional 20 percent off coupon, making these a real bargain.

Gift Wrap

Stores want to get rid of all of that Christmas wrapping paper, and it is on clearance now anywhere from 50 to 75 percent off. It may go up to 90 percent off in another couple of weeks, if there is anything left.

Mary Ann’s tip: Get over to Target, where the gift wrap is currently 75 percent off. If you look through the wrap, you will find a lot of generic patterns that could be used for other occasions, such as silver with black that could be used for a wedding, pink polka dots for a girl’s birthday, etc. Stock it in your gift closet and pay pennies for wrap that would cost you dollars if you bought it later in the year.

Winter Clothes

Now that Christmas is over, winter clothes will start going on sale. It is is the end of the sales season for things such as winter coats, hats, boots and gloves, so you’ll pick up some major bargains.

Mary Ann’s tip: Head over to Kohls and concentrate on winter coats and boots in children’s sizes. There are some deeply discounted items and enough selection that you should be able to purchase what you need and put away for next year. Think of it as getting three coats or three sets of boots for the price of one.
