Unless your are a homesteader, you probably have an almost endless supply of egg cartons. Why not put them to good use instead of throwing them away?
Egg cartons can be used for all sorts of storage solutions.
My favorite use for egg cartons has got to be to store small breakable objects. The little cavities where the eggs normally go are perfect to nest things such as Christmas ornaments, delicate jewelry, etc. In the case of jewelry, especially, an easy tip is to grab a shoe-box and insert the bottom of the egg carton into the shoe-box. You can then decorate the shoe-box with contact paper, fabric, etc. No one will know that your pretty box wasn’t store bought.
Other storage ideas for egg cartons include storing craft items such as beads, buttons, small stickers and scrap-booking charms. Why spend hundred on those plastic organizers. sing egg cartons is a much more frugal idea, and you can use the money you saved for more craft supplies!
In the sewing or laundry room, you can store safety pins, coins that come out of pockets and even rocks. I normally have a large supply of rocks that would wind up in my washer if I weren’t careful. My five-year-old-son has a hard time resisting a good rock, and saves them all in his pockets. I have a lidless egg carton on a shelf over my laundry machines to catch such treasures.
And how about storing those plastic Easter Eggs in egg cartons! The cartons can stack for easy storage, and you won’t be hunting to match up the egg halves that get separated when they are in a plastic bag. The plastic eggs won’t get cracked storing them this way.
Why not use egg cartons as boot trees. Inset one egg carton in each boot. This will keep the boots upright and nicely stored until you need them. It will prevent the leather or other material in your boots from creasing and cracking.
Egg cartons can be used as packing material. This is great if you are preparing for a move, as I am. The cartons can help cushion your items in your box. You can store the boxes, knowing your items are safe from breakage. You can also use this packing trick for shipping items. The egg cartons are light and won’t add unnecessary weight to your packages.
What do you think? Would you try any of these ideas? Do you want to see more real uses for egg cartons? I’d love to hear your feedback.
