American Idol

I had mentioned before that 17-year-old David Archuleta’s dad is reportedly a true stage parent and the rumors are still swirling. An unnamed source has told Associated Press that now that David has made the final three, his dad is officially banned from the rehearsals. Word is that Jeff Archuleta was told by “American Idol” producers that he could no longer join David as he prepares for the show.

What cause the producers to finally snap and ban Jeff? According to the AP article, Jeff insisted on a lyric change in the song “Stand by Me,” which David sang last Tuesday as part of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame night. Fox has not commented and AP couldn’t reach Jeff Archuleta for a comment. David was honored by his hometown of Murray, Utah this past Friday, in which Utah Governor Jon Huntsman declared it “David Archuleta Day.”

In other Idol news, Jason Castro has admitted he is relieved after being eliminated from the show. Judge Simon Cowell went so far as to insinuate that Jason intentionally flubbed the lyrics to “Mr. Tambourine Man” to take the pressure off, but Jason insists he didn’t do it on purpose. He did, however, agree with Simon that he wasn’t performing like the Jason they voted into the competition. Jason said the two song weeks threw him off and he just couldn’t connect to them.

Survivor

If you saw Thursday’s show, did it hurt your heart as it hurt mine? I was so happy when Erik won the immunity challenge. Faced with four female opponents, Erik had to win immunity to stay in the game. The 21-year-old ice cream vendor proudly put the immunity necklace on, but then the girls worked their magic.

I can only imagine that Erik doesn’t have much experience with the opposite sex because they were able to convince him to give up the immunity necklace, then vote him out. In what host Jeff Probst called a “life lesson,” Erik gave his immunity necklace to Natalie to try to make up for any injustices he had committed.

What puzzles me is Erik has grown up watching this game. He was perhaps the most super of this season’s so-called “super fans.” He knew the game, even winning immunity last week by answering questions about past seasons! However, his gullibility kicked in and the girls quickly eliminated him. Even the jury laughed at him when he took the necklace off. At least he took a bit of the heat off James, who last season was sitting on not one, but two hidden immunity idols when voted off, Ozzy, who this season had the hidden immunity idol and was voted out without using it, and finally Jason, who had the hidden immunity idol, but let the girls convince him he was safe before voting him out. It is definitely the season of the girls!
