Reality Updates: Top Chef Engaged, a VP Dancer, and Idol Gets a Record Deal

Sam Talbot, a Bravo’s “Top Chef” finalist, has announced his engagement. Sam and his Columbian girlfriend Paola Guerro became engaged this past weekend. They met in Brazil on Talbot’s 30th birthday. As of right now, there is no set wedding date.

Guerra is a model and t-shirt designer who Talbot says is “amazing” and “stunning.” Sam is not so bad himself, providing eye candy for the ladies in season 2. Sam is currently the executive chef of Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY. That is in the Hamptons for those not in the know.

Could there be a presidential tone to this year’s “Dancing with the Stars?” Only time will tell, but rumor has it that the “Dancing with the Stars” producers are hoping to get former vice president Dan Quayle to appear on the upcoming seventh season of the show.

The 61-year-old politician served as vice president in the George H. W. Bush administration from 1989 to 1993. However, even if Quayle does appear, he will be the second (albeit higher ranking) politician. Season 3 contestant Jerry Springer served as the mayor of Cincinnati in 1977.

The cast for season 7 of “Dancing with the Stars” will be announced on “Good Morning America” on August 25. The two-hour season premiere will be aired on September 22 at 8 pm ET on ABC.

Melinda Doolittle finished in third place in season 6 of “American Idol.” I am not quite sure what happened because Melinda seemed to be a forerunner throughout the entire show. The second place finisher, Blake Lewis and first place finisher Jordin Sparks both signed with 19 Recordings and Arista Records just three months after the show’s finale in May 2007. Melinda hasn’t had a recording deal…until now.

Melinda just signed with independent label Hi Fi Recordings, which was founded in 1995 by John Hecker. But, just because Melinda hasn’t signed a record deal doesn’t mean she hasn’t been busy. She traveled to Africa with Malaria No More to distribute bed nets and hold a concert. She also performed in her alma mater’s annual Christmas at Belmont concert.

Her album is due to hit the market later this fall.
