If you were watching television last night, you might have noticed that both “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Last Comic Standing” crowned new champions in a reality show double-header.
First up was “So You Think You Can Dance.” This year, there were two girls and two guys as the four finalists, but there was one interesting twist – neither guy was classically trained. Both Joshua and Twitch are street hip-hop dancers who just truly stepped up to the plate to perform dances like Broadway and the Russian trepak. For the girls, it was Courtney that was eliminated first. I was then shocked to see Katee eliminated next! I was sure the winner would be her and one of the guys. But, Cat Deely had a pleasant surprise for her – she got $50,000 for being the top girl contestant. The winner was Joshua, who I thought was so good, but I did feel a bit sad for Twitch. However, I think all four will have great careers in dancing. Kudos to Fox for letting us see judges Nigel and Mary get up off their bums and dance in the finale!
Over at NBC, “Last Comic Standing” was wrapping up as well. Unfortunately, my two favorite comedians – Louis Ramey and Jim Tavare – were eliminated first. Jeff Dye was eliminated next, leaving Iliza Shlesinger, and Marcus. In the final minutes of the show, Iliza was named the first female winner of “Last Comic Standing.” Just like “So You Think You Can Dance,” this show offers great exposure and I think all the final 10 comedians will benefit from that.
A&E is known for its gritty reality shows like “Intervention” and “Dog the Bounty Hunter.” However, it appears as if the plug has been pulled on their latest venture. Several months ago, the network filmed a pilot called “Saints and Sinners,” which featured a Christian motorcycle gang.
Sounds interesting to me, but the leader and six others were recently arrested in Orange County, California on charges of attempted murder. Ouch. After all the hoopla about Dog’s racist comments, I guess A&E, although they didn’t believe any of the bikers in their pilot were arrested, will shelve the project. That is too bad – the show was supposed to be centered on a halfway house the bikers ran to help addicts.
