Reasons Dad should Do the Homeschooling

It is rare to find a father in charge of homeschooling the children. In many homeschooling families, the dad’s role is that of principal and occasional tutor in one or two subjects. Meanwhile, mom takes on the bulk of the homeschooling job. Here are some circumstances when the roles should be reversed.

The father is more passionate about homeschooling: I am familiar with a case where the father decided that the child should be homeschooling. He did all of the research. He decided what curriculum should be used. Then he proceeded to tell the mom that she needed to do the work. Sure, she was a stay at home mom, but she was already overwhelmed. Meanwhile, he was fortunate to have a job where he had the freedom and schedule to work with his child. The child home schooled for only a year. This is because the parent who was most passionate about homeschooling was not the parent working with the child.

The mom is the family breadwinner: Just like the recent trend of stay-at-home dads, homeschooling dads would become necessary when the mother makes enough money to support the family, but the father does not. He could instead take charge of homeschooling the children, while the mom brings home the bacon.

Fathers want to build a stronger relationship with children. It is a known fact that mothers who homeschool their children tend to have close relationships with them, even through the teen and tween years. There is no need for the father to miss out having a close relationship with their children also. Having dinner together and occasional outings are great ways to spend time with your kids, but spending several concentrated hours a day, working on projects and lessons will make sure that you always have something to talk about.
