Reasons to Move

keys With the media constantly talking about the housing market, people wonder if they really should move, selling their old homes and or buying new homes. I get these questions a lot. While the house market can be scary, the truth is that sometimes you have a good reason to move, and that reason may overshadow any downsides to selling a home right now. And the truth is that even though you may take a hit on your current home, you can still purchase another home for a good price, so things may just even out. I have three friends at the moment that are all in the process of preparing for a move.

Here are some of the best reasons to move now or any other time. Take a look at this list and see if any of these reasons apply to your situation.

1. You’ve outgrown your home. This is the reason that my family and I picked up and moved last year. Our family simply outgrew the space we had. While our new (older) home isn’t that much larger, it is much better at accommodating all five of us. We also wanted a backyard for the kids, which we didn’t have in our previous home.

2. You’re not happy with the area. Our old neighborhood was perfect for a single or a couple with no kids. Transportation to the city was readily available, and we could walk to the a few different stores. However, once we had children, the neighborhood changed for us. The school district wasn’t very desirable, and we had some concerns about the rowdiness of the neighboring town.

3. A job change. A new job may require relocating to a new area. Commutes of an hour and up are tough to do on a regular basis. The good news is that if you are relocating because of a job transfer, you can claim your moving expenses on your taxes in most cases.

There are even more reasons to move. Check back soon.
