Recipe For a Happy Marriage

Given the increasing rate of divorce what can we do to safeguard our marriages and make sure we don’t end up among the statistics?
Here are some suggestions that we have found work in our marriage. Take all the ingredients below and out them together in a marriage.

Hold on tight to what you have. Consider your marriage and the positives of your spouse and don’t forget to let him or her know how much you appreciate their special qualities.

Overlook their faults. We all have them. Love is about accepting the other person for who they are faults and all. But if something is really becoming a problem, find a quiet moment when you are together and talk about it. Don’t let it fester and build up resentment. Explain calmly and quietly why you find it to be such a problem. Men and women think and react to things differently. It may be our spouse has no idea that this is a problem for you.

Communication is the key to any good marriage. When you disagree or get on each other’s nerves, don’t forget those important little words ‘I’m sorry.’ Don’t assume your spouse should be the one to say them. In the scheme of a marriage, does it really mater who apologizes first? The important thing is resolving the problem and getting back to a good relationship.

Remember why you fell in love with them in the first place and reinforce those things that drew you to them.

Show your love for them in creative, practical and thoughtful ways by words as well as by deed. Thank them for the things they do for you and find ways that you can please them.

Make time for each other. Take time to be together enjoying each other’s company.

Set up a regular date night where you can focus on getting your relationship back on track. It doesn’t have to be a costly exercise. It could be something as simple as snuggling up to watch a DVD or going out for an ice-cream and a walk along with beach. Most grandparents would love to mind the children for an hour or two or arrange with friends and neighbors to baby-sit for each other so you can spend time together. If your family has left the home then you have no excuse for not spending quality time together.

Don’t become so busy with other activities that you don’t have time for each other.

Make your love and holding onto it a priority. Make sure your spouse knows he or she is the most important person in the world to you.

And one of the best things you can do to strengthen your love and marriage as well as your relationship with God, is to pray and read the Bible together.
