I wrote a blog a while back about how you could recycle old jeans. But, I forgot about old t-shirts – something I have plenty of! What can you do with an old t-shirt? Here are a few ideas:
Throw Pillows
Old t-shirts, if they are not stained, make excellent throw pillows. Cut a square from the front and back body of the shirt, stuff, and sew together. You can even cut smaller squares from different colored shirts and sew them together to make a more decorative throw pillow. If you have a t-shirt with a logo you love, use that as the centerpiece of your pillow so you can keep it as a memento.
Purse
Just like you can use a beloved t-shirt logo as the centerpiece of a throw pillow, you can also use it as the centerpiece of a cool purse. You may want to use heavier fabric than the t-shirt cotton to make the actual purse then sew the logo to that.
Facial Wipes
The cool thing about t-shirts is when you cut the material, the ends roll up, and so you don’t have to hem them or worry about them fraying. Cut an old t-shirt into small squares and use them as facial wipes. This saves you from getting makeup on your good towels.
Car Rags
Can someone that works on a car ever have enough rags? Cut the shirts up into decent size squares and stack them up on the shelf in the garage for handy access for cleaning the inside and outside of the car.
Burp Rags
If you have a baby in the house or are planning on having one, cut up t-shirts can make excellent burp rags. Plus you don’t feel as bad throwing them away when they get all stained up as you do the fancy store bought ones.
Pet Toys
If Fido likes to chew and fetch, but you are tired of buying expensive dog toys, cut the t-shirt up to make a stuff animal toy or a knotted chew toy.
If your t-shirts are in good shape and you don’t really want to recycle them for around the house, you can always donate them to a local thrift store or homeless shelter.
