January is a great time to do a little redecorating. The major holidays are over, and the winter blahs begin to set in. What better time is there to freshen things up a bit and bring new life to your home? The only thing is, who wants to spend any money while we are still dealing with the bills and spending from the holidays? Not me. Here are some creative ways you can redecorate without spending a dime.
Bring new life to your bathrooms with some fun patterned towels. Just take some of your existing towels and add some fabric paint to them. Create a stencil from cardboard for consistency, or just free hand it.
Another way to redecorate is to simply move the furniture around. This will give you a new perspective on things and may even spark further creativity. If you tend to have your furniture positioned against the walls, try placing it in the center of the room instead or at least at an angle. You can anchor a sofa that is in the middle of the room by placing a narrow sofa table at the back or flanking it with lamps or end tables.
You can take the above idea one step further by swapping furniture from room to room. You can do this with major pieces or accent pieces. Don’t forget about swapping out accessories, too.
If you have an outside or patio rug, consider bringing it indoors during the winer for a change. Make it a focal point and redecorate around this piece. As a bonus, an outdoor rug should be easier to clean, which is a bonus during the slushy and muddy winter and spring months.
Clean your carpeting to instantly brighten a room. If you have any stains in the carpet, you can place an area rug on top to cover them. Rearranging the furniture, as mentioned above, can also cover up stains and even worn spots.
