Redmond O’Neal Gets Rehab

Redmond O’Neal, the son of actors Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, is getting another chance at getting clean. The 24 year old was arrested on April 5th for drug possession. He took a friend to visit another friend in jail and when the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officers did a routine check, they found Redmond in possession of heroin.

Redmond learned this week that he will go to an intense rehab program. The program will include frequent drug testing and court appearances. If Redmond can stay clean this time, he will no longer be on probation and have his record wiped clear of past drug convictions.

If you are keeping score at home, Redmond’s recent arrests include last September’s raid on father Ryan’s home (in which the police found methamphetamines), a June 2008 guilty plea of possession of heroin and methamphetamines (for which he was still on probation), and then the April 5th incident. Ryan was sentenced to rehab for 18 months in January for the September incident.

Redmond told the judge earlier this year that he regretted this past arrest has kept him from seeing his ill mother Farrah. He told the judge that Farrah only weighs 86 pounds now. The judge allowed him to leave jail briefly to visit her, raising concerns that Farrah’s health was deteriorating.

Her representative Arnold Robinson had denied this, saying her status is “unchanged.” She was in the hospital recently for internal bleeding, although her doctor said before Easter that she was walking and in great spirits.

I just cannot imagine the bad shape Redmond must be in to have drugs in his possession when visiting someone in jail. That is just asking for trouble. This poor kid is famous for nothing else other than his parents and past drug convictions. It seems like every time we turn around, he is either being arrested for drugs or going into rehab and he is only 24 years old! But, Robert Downey Jr. seemed to be a hopeless case less than 10 years ago and he has turned his life around, so maybe there is hope for Redmond.
