Sometimes, we hardly have enough time in a day for the barest necessities. Maybe we don’t feel that we have time for extra projects. Then there are those who think the whole “green” thing is over the top, so they don’t want to go out of their way with the environmental stuff. Good news! Either way, the following options are not only painless, but some of them will even save us time and money while doing something good for the environment. It’s all good.
Just Say No to Bottled Water
First, it costs too much, in my opinion; it’s water. Secondly, how much of this designer water really comes straight from a tap and is merely placed into pretty packages? Click here to learn more about two popular bottled water products.
Not only is it a gimmick in many cases, but bottled water also uses a lot of plastic. It also requires fuel to be transported and uses even more packaging when boxed up for transport. Then, we end up using more fuel going out to buy it weekly.
Instead, in one trip, you can pick up a filter for your tap at home and a sports bottle or cup that can be rinsed and re-used again and again. You still get fresh water without the overpriced, wasteful packaging and without having to go out to get it.
Beware of Bags
How many plastic grocery bags accumulate in our homes after just a few trips to the store (paper too)? It’s not quite so bad if we re-use or recycle them, but they just seem to be everywhere. Instead, we can use cloth tote bags or ask for an empty box from the store to carry home our items. The boxes will get used at least one more time, after which they can be recycled.
*When re-using/recycling plastic bags use caution if children or pets might get a hold of them.
Skip those little plastic bags in the produce section whenever possible as well. You’ll need one for grapes or other loose items, but they aren’t really necessary if you’re buying one tomato or a bunch of bananas.
