Yesterday, I talked about whether or not it is worth the printing expense to print coupons from the Internet. Today, I want to talk about another cost associated with coupons, that of buying newspapers to get the coupons that come with them.
Personally, if I have to pay full price for a newspaper, I only get one copy of the paper, usually. This is because of my local store’s coupon policy. They only double or triple the first of a similar coupon, so it just isn’t worth it for me to obtain multiple sets of coupons this way. I also tend to use a lot of printable coupons. There are exceptions of course, such as when the paper contains a great coupon for a free product that normally costs more than the cost of the newspaper.
I find that I don’t mind the cost of the newspaper when I get everything I can out of it. This way, I don’t feel as though the price is just for the coupons. I read the different sections to keep up with the news and features. There really is a lot to learn and enjoy. After the paper is read, it can be put to good use in a variety of ways. You can turn newspapers into fire logs, use them for crafts, etc. If you can use the newspaper for something that might have otherwise cost you money, then you can factor that savings into the cost equation.
To get more paper or papers for less, consider how you purchase them. One of the lowest prices is usually available with a subscription. I’ve also found that subscription agents are usually willing to give you a great deal just for asking.
Another place where the Sunday newspaper can be purchased for less than the cover price is at local dollar stores. It is true. This makes it easy to purchase multiple copies of the paper when it is cheap. Our local Sunday paper normally costs $1.75. At the local dollar store, it can be had for $1 or near the end of the day for 2 for $1.
