Don’t get rid of that whiteboard just because it has some hard to clean marks on it, from dry erase “ghosts” to permanent ink. You’ll find this quick tip to be all you need to have a whiteboard that looks like new again.
Whiteboards are constantly turning up in the trash because they get old and dull. Build up from those dry erase markers finally gets to be too much. Even though the marks are supposed to erase completely, they never do, often leaving shadows or dry erase “powder.”
Another pitfall that happens when using a white board is when someone mistakenly uses a permanent marker to write on the whiteboard, leaving it permanently stained. Well, dry erase boards might not break the bank, they are useful for some many home applications, from home schooling to home businesses. And they can be very handy for communicating in the family and keeping track of busy schedules. Back when I was in college, it seemed that almost every door in the dorm had one of these boards, so friends who stopped by could leave messages when you weren’t in your room. I’m not sure what college kids do these days in the age of texting and cell phones, of course.
To refurbish your whiteboard simply apply WD-40 to the surface and wipe it clean. It works very well, as if it were made for the job. If the frame of the board is the worse for wear, you can pretty it up by gluing found objects around the edge, such as shells, craft stones, tiles, etc.
Finally, if you are missing dry erase markers and don’t want to buy any. Try using children’s washable markers. You might need a damp cloth to erase the marker, but it is an easy and inexpensive idea.
