What’s going on with Regis Philbin?
The 75-year-old talk show host said he was seriously considering retiring after this season. And who could blame him? His daytime talk show, “Live with Regis and Kelly” just passed the 20 year mark (he’s remained a constant fixture though his co-hosts have changed over the years), his daughter is about to give birth to his new grandchild, and he just underwent major heart surgery that took him off the air for more than a month.
But now in a move that is shocking fans around the nation, instead of slowing down “Reege” recently accepted another TV gig—-hosting a new version of the classic game show “Password.”
Is Philbin trying to give Ryan Seacrest a run for the title of hardest working man in show business? What gives?
According to Philbin, CBS has ordered six episodes of “Million Dollar Password” and plans to show the program in primetime early next year.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this great show that I remember so well from a few years ago,” Philbin said in a statement. “It was a very classy production.”
Show producers say the new “Password,” will feature two teams, each made up of a celebrity and a contestant. And similar to the original show, the teams will compete to guess a password revealed to the studio audience and viewers. The new twist to the game is that team with the highest score can decide to keep its winnings or try to reach a final round with a $1 million grand prize.
Granted, Philbin is no stranger to game show hosting or primetime (he was the original host of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and he also emceed NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”), but come on…
Maybe Philbin’s wife Joy didn’t take well to his proposed retirement.
While Reege returns to primetime another big name celeb is making his debut on daytime TV.
Hottie Enrique Iglesias will be getting soap fans in a lather when he appears on the November 7th episode of CBS’“The Young and the Restless.”
Iglesias already taped the episode in which he performs at Indigo, the jazz club owned by Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John). According to show producers, the 32-year-old hunky Latin heartthrob sings, “Somebody’s Me” from his new CD “Insomniac.”
The “Y&R” gig marks Iglesias’ first appearance on daytime TV, but the award-winning singer isn’t a complete newbie in the world of acting. Iglesias’ other TV credits include appearances on “How I Met Your Mother” and “Two and a Half Men.”
Now that his soap taping is complete Iglesias now moves on to his next project–a world tour which gets underway next week in South Africa.
