It’s a blast from the not-so distant past…
ABC is reviving “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” this summer, and they got Regis Philbin to come back as host.
It’s been nearly a decade since the TV game show became a smash hit, and Reege debuted his famous monochromatic ensembles, and now both are set to return to the small screen. According to ABC execs, “Millionaire” will return as an 11-night event, beginning August 9th and concluding August 23rd.
The popular quiz show premiered in the U.S. during the summer of 1999, and it didn’t take long before couch potatoes from coast-to-coast were asking, “Is that your final answer?”
“Millionaire” got yanked from primetime in 2002, mainly because ABC used it as a crutch and aired it way too much. However, execs at the alphabet network decided to bring the show back for a limited time thanks to the renewed interest it gained after being featured in “Slumdog Millionaire,” this year’s Oscar-winning movie about a young contestant on a version of the show in India.
A syndicated daytime version of “Millionaire” with Meredith Vieira as host airs daily in the U.S., but hasn’t enjoyed near the ratings success as other game shows.
Speaking of ratings successes, Avon is hoping their TV debut will boost sales.
The popular cosmetics firm is trying a new tactic to recruit sales representatives—-its first-ever infomercial.
The 30-minute commercial will debut on Oxygen Saturday morning, and then it will be shown repeatedly on Oxygen, Lifetime and USA.
Avon execs say TV veterans Deborah Norville and financial guru Suze Orman will be featured in the infomercial along with dozens of everyday women who sell Avon products.
The company is hoping the testimonials from the women will increase its base of 500,000 sales representatives in the United States.
