Your aromatherapy starter kit is full of beneficial and inexpensive essential oils! Here are some recipes that will help you feel more relaxed! And if I’ve suggested a scent you’re not particularly fond of — or don’t have in your collection — you can always substitute a scent from the same family.
Keep in mind that essential oils are not meant to be used undiluted. You must mix them into a carrier oil, cream, or lotion for safe use.
Stress Reducer Blend #1
Mix equal amounts of a citrus scent with a floral scent. For example, lemon and lavender, or orange and rosewood.
- Carrier: 4oz jojoba oil
- Citrus: 2 drops grapefruit essential oil
- Floral: 2 drops lavender essential oil
Stress Reducer Blend #2
Mix equal amounts of a floral scent and an herb scent. For example, lavender and sage.
- Carrier: 4oz unscented lotion
- Floral: 2 drops palmarosa essential oil
- Herbal: 2 drops clary sage essential oil
Stress Reducer Blend #3
Try a wood scent, a floral scent, and a citrus scent together! Wood scents are a smooth base for any scent blend.
- Carrier: 4oz jojoba oil
- Wood: 1 drop cedarwood essential oil
- Floral: 2 drops lavender essential oil
- Citrus: 2 drops lemon essential oil
Stress Reducer Blend #4
Try a wood scent and an herbal scent together! I personally find that the wood scents tend to stick with me longer than the others, so I counteract the effect by using a little more herbal scent and a little less woodsy scent.
- Carrier: 4oz unscented lotion
- Wood: 1 drop pine essential oil
- Herbal: 2 drops clary sage essential oil
Be creative! Come up with your own scent choices and proportions. As a general rule of thumb, use one drop of essential oil per ounce. Essential oils are so concentrated; it doesn’t take much at all to scent your lotion, cream, or carrier oil.
