Relief Society: A New Presidency

One of the wonderful things about the church is that most callings do not last forever. This means that leadership positions do change. Often when a presidency changes, the way the program is operated will change slightly. This can happen even when both the previous and current presidents are following all of the guidelines. This is because leaders have different areas that they choose to emphasize.

When your Relief Society presidency changes it is important to support your new president. She is doing her best to serve you. Things may change, but this is not always a negative thing. You may be surprised at the positive things that come as a result of the changes.

Additionally it is important to be as supportive as possible when the changes are made. It does not do anyone any good to talk about things in a negative matter. If something really bothers you, then you should pray about it and then discuss it with the Relief Society president. You may be given peace to accept the decision or you may come to understand it in time.

Another way that you can support your presidency is to attend all the meetings that you can and should attend. The quarterly Enrichment meetings are especially important to attend. Another great way to support your Relief Society presidency is to pray for them. This is a difficult calling. It requires a great deal of sacrifice of time. The family of the presidency may be affected as well. Praying that the sisters may be strengthened and blessed is a great way to help.

I have been told that no one truly understands how busy a Relief Society president is, until you are a Relief Society president. There is a lot of worry that accompanies the calling. It is important to be respectful of your Relief Society president’s time and family. She can use all the support she can get.
