Relief Society: Accepting Service

This week in Relief Society our lesson was on the importance of accepting service. This lesson can be applied to each of us. At times it can be easier to reach out and provide service to someone rather than admit that you can use the help. I know that I often am guilty of this.

At times it important to call and ask for help. Most people are going to be willing to help when you ask. It may be that their schedules or family circumstances do not allow them to help, but chances are they are not going to be upset that you asked for help. You can simply call and let the Relief Society President to let her know that you could use some help. Your visiting teachers are another great resource.

There may be times that you do not ask for service, but someone offers it. It is important to be able to accept the service as graciously as possible. It is important that you allow others the opportunity to serve. Often these sisters are acting on a prompting and may be an answer to your prayers. It is important to remember that the Lord answers prayers through others.

As you accept and receive service, it is important to remember to show your gratitude for the efforts involved. A thank you note can easily express this. You can also pass on or return the service at a later date. This also shows gratitude to Heavenly Father for the many blessings that you have in your life.

We all go through different times in our lives. At times it may be that we need the service. These times include death in the family, illness and times of unemployment. Other times we may be in a better position to help others. At these times it is important to reach out to others.
