It is important to recognize and value the nurturing qualities of women. Lately, it seems to me, that the gentler qualities of helping, supporting and serving others are looked down on. Many people would see these as a sign of weakness or a failure to reach one’s full potential. It is important to realize that these qualities have been given to us for a reason.
As sisters in Relief Society, it is important to realize the blessings of these qualities. It is through service to others that we can learn to love them. It is through supporting and helping those around us that we can grow closer to the Savior and to each other. We also have the opportunity to serve our children, and other family members. These opportunities help us to become selfless, and to learn to prioritize for the things, which are most important.
It is important to realize that while we care for ourselves, it is important that we look at how we can help others. The ways may be simple. We can say hello to a stranger. We can offer to baby sit. We can visit a lonely sister. We can cry with someone. We can pray with and for someone. These acts of compassion and help bless both those we serve and ourselves. As we reach out to help others, we can begin to see the way the Savior sees them.
Take time on a regular basis to pray for ways that you can help those around you. As you strive to develop these nurturing qualities, you will be a more capable and willing servant for the Lord. You may want to choose an area to focus on for a short time. You can study the scriptures and pray as you learn to develop charity for others.
