Relief Society: “Remembering the Lord’s Love”

In her talk “Remembering the Lord’s Love” Sister Kathleen H Hughes spoke of the importance of feeling the love the Lord has for each of us. She opens her talk by sharing an experience that she had shortly after her mother died. She was really missing her mother, and she was praying when she felt arms encircle her for a moment and peace filled her soul. She knew then that the Lord was comforting.

Sister Hughes went on to share other times she has felt that peace that comes from the Lord. She went on to say that although she doesn’t have those experiences every day, as she seeks for the peace, she can find it. She can remember the peace that she felt during the difficult times in her life, and draw on it to strengthen her through the difficult times she now faces.

Sister Hughes also says that when we are struggling that it is important to seek for the peace from the Lord. Praying, reading the scriptures, listening to the Holy Ghost and self-reflection will help you to find the peace. It is important to realize that the Lord is there to comfort us and guide us through our difficult times.

Sister Hughes also spoke of the importance of providing a place of peace in our homes. As women we need to be the example, so that our children may feel peace. It is important to make our homes a place of refuge from the challenges of the world Sister Hughes concluded her talk by saying:

“My prayer for each of us is that we will remember when the Lord has spoken His peace to us and has encircled us in the arms of His love. And just as important, will you, if you haven’t felt that love for a while, seek to see it and feel it as you go about the ordinary tasks of your life. As you do this, over the days and months and years of your life, the memories of those interactions with the Lord will become sweet gifts to open a second time—or many times—to bolster you when life is difficult.”

This is a wonderful talk, and it brought back to my mind the times that I have experienced the peace she is talking about. You truly can find comfort in your most difficult struggles as you turn to the Lord for guidance and help. I also look back at those experiences, and they have strengthened me as I face new ones. I hope that you can find the peace that Sister Hughes speaks of.
