One of the great things about Relief Society is the diversity of the sisters involved in the organization. It is rare that one single organization would have sisters from so many different walks of life. Not only do we have sisters all over the world from rich to poor, but the Relief Society also has sisters in every phase of life. Some sisters are single, some are newly married, some have young children, some have older children and others are grandmothers. This diversity allows us to grow and help each other in unique ways.
It is important that we each find the blessings that our current phase of life affords us. It can become easy to be caught up in the negative aspects of our current life situation. It is easy for young mothers to become overwhelmed with the amount of work they do or for older sisters to dwell on how lonely they are with all the children out of the house. As you focus on the positive aspects your attitude will change for the better and you can more easily touch other lives for the better.
It is also important to take advantage of the diversity in Relief Society. Each sister brings a unique life experience to class. These experiences can help and bless us through example and testimony. You can also learn solutions to problems you are facing by learning from the experiences of the other sisters. I have learned a lot from the older sisters in my ward. Every time one shares her testimony, I feel encouraged to keep going, because of her example.
It can be too easy to become cliquish. People tend to be drawn to those who are like them. Often the older sisters will sit together and talk, while the younger sisters do the same. This limits the learning opportunities and wonderful friendships that might develop if we could each step outside of the normal boundaries.
