Remember the Sabbath

The Sabbath is a day that we take time to worship Christ. It is important to prepare ourselves for this wonderful day of rest and worship. Many people mistakenly leave church at church and only focus on the gospel on Sunday, but in order to truly be ready for the Sabbath, we need to focus on the gospel throughout the week.

As we pray each day it is important to take time to reflect on the things we need to repent of or to focus more on. This focus helps us when it comes time to take the Sacrament and renew our covenants. The Sacrament is a wonderful blessing that allows us to start fresh each week. We should arrive at church early enough, so that we can focus on what is truly important each week.

Another thing we can do is to study the scriptures and lessons throughout the week. This will help us to pay attention to the talks and the lessons. It is true that you only get out of church what you put into it. It can be difficult to pay attention in class if you are trying to fill out paperwork or do things for your calling. Try to focus on the lessons while you are there.

Make sure that you truly set aside Sundays as a time to worship. Many good things can get in the way of focusing completely on the Savior. This could include home and visiting teaching, elaborate family meals and even too much rest. There is a fine balance to keeping the Sabbath a day of true worship. By limiting the outside activities and finding unique and special Sunday only activities, you can make the Sabbath a truly special day in your home.

As you strive to do these things Sundays will quickly become your favorite day of the week. We all need to take the time renew ourselves. The perfect time to do this is when we are strengthening our testimony of the Savior.
