Remember Why You Got Married

When it comes to your marriage it is too easy to become lost. You can easily forget why you married your spouse, as well as the goals you are working towards. You can also forget the covenants you made as you get caught up in the day to day rush of your life. It is important to take a little bit of time each day to remind yourself of these things.

One way that you can do this is by spending time together as a couple. It is important to have a little bit of down time with your spouse each and every day. If your spouse travels frequently for work, a telephone conversation may suffice. You can also IM or text each other throughout the day. This helps to keep your relationship in the present.

It is also important to remember the reason and purpose behind marriage. It can become difficult as you deal with your children and all that involves caring for a family to remember what the primary goal of that family is. You need to take time as a couple on regular basis to make sure that your marriage and your family is pointed in the right direction.

Take time to build up the spiritual side of your relationship. Temple attendance, scripture study and couple prayer are things that you can do to help each other stay strong in the gospel. If you are struggling in this area you may want to talk to the bishop about how to work on the spiritual aspect of your marriage.

Another important thing to do is to take time every few years (or more often) to spend at least a weekend together as a couple. This time together will give you a chance to get reacquainted. It is important to remember that the foundation of your family is your marriage. As you strive to improve your marriage, the overall spirit in your home will improve as well.
