I used to get so frustrated when I went to the store and was reminded of something I needed and didn’t know the size! Furnace filters are the worst. It never failed, every time I remembered to buy them I forgot what size. I needed a better way to keep track of this stuff.
One day I went around the house and made a list of all the things I needed to buy, only occasionally, so I would always have the numbers. I carry a day planner in my purse so it was easy to write this information on a page in the back. When I get a new day planner this is the first thing I copy in to it.
I always think I’ll remember, but I never do. Some of the things that are in the back of my day planner are:
Size of furnace filters
Size of swamp cooler pads
Measurements of the mantel and various shelves in the house (I often find things I like and get them home and they are too wide)
Types of ink cartridges needed for the printer
Types of vegetables that did really well in the garden so I can buy the same kind next year
Size of candles in different candle holders throughout the house
Type of string for the weed eater
Window measurements
List of movies, music and books my daughter has mentioned wanting (this way I can find them on sale and save them for Christmas)
Hailey’s clothing and shoe sizes
Measurements of the kitchen table (tablecloths, placemats, etc)
Battery sizes for our different electronics
This is just a partial list, your list will be different as your home and family will need different things than mine does. This list is a lifesaver, make it as soon as you get a chance and it will save you lots of time in the future when you don’t have to return things because they are the wrong size. You also will not find yourself with a drawer full of batteries that fit nothing.
