Do you have some decals that you need to remove from your household surfaces? Try this trick that works well and doesn’t damage most surfaces.
Most households have at least one run in with decals. Whether they are tub decals that you have inherited (or placed yourself) or stickers that kids have stuck to the furniture, decals can be difficult to deal with. And those tub decals can be especially tough to remove.
The standard way that I used to remove decals is by peeling off as much of the decal as possible and then applying nail polish remover to any remaining residue. While this may work in some places, such as when the decals are stuck to non-porous surfaces, this technic does have some drawbacks. For one, you can’t use it on wood or lacquered surfaces. And the nail polish remover may strip color or paint from items. It also won’t work on decals that aren’t made of paper, because the nail polish remover can’t easily soak through to get to the glue. It definitely won’t work on those tough bathtub decals.
So what is the right solution? Chances are that you already have it in your basement or garage.
Just spray on some WD-40, and the decal will slip right off. WD-40 can be found at automotive stores, as well as stores such as Walmart and Target. I’ve also seen it at some grocery stores. It is a solvent that works well on many different types of adhesives, especially the kind used on those tub decals.
If you have a delicate item, be sure to test it first in a small area. I have never had any problems using WD-40, but it is a good idea to be cautious whenever you use any type of solvent.
After removing the decal, clean the surface well.
