Resolutions

As the New Year approaches many people will undoubtedly be making resolutions about things they want to change in their lives. From losing weight, spending more time with family, or getting out of debt people use the New Year as a fresh start in their lives. While each of the resolutions I mentioned above are good, I also want to encourage you to make some “spiritual” resolutions. Below I have listed just a few resolutions to help strengthen one’s walk with God.

  • Pray, pray, pray. Prayer is an important part of a Christian’s life. Resolve to pray more often to God, or to pray more thoughtful prayers.
  • Read. Resolve to read the Bible daily. If you already do read your Bible daily, resolve to increase how much time you spend in God’s Word.
  • Study. Resolve to not only read God’s Word, but to truly study the Bible.
  • Spend time with family doing spiritual things. Pray together, read together, and a study together.
  • Be an encourager. Resolve to be the one who encourages others rather than the one that discourages others.
  • Be hospitable. Resolve to be the one who provides food for those in need, the one who watches after children of a sick mom, and the one who always has a place for someone to stay who is in need.
  • Be a light. Resolve to be a shining light in this dark world. Live your life in such a way that people notice you are different from the world.
  • Take advantage of opportunities. Resolve to take advantage of opportunities to help someone or share God’s Word with someone.

The ultimate goal of any resolution made is to make a permanent lifestyle change. Sadly, so many resolutions fall through the cracks within only a few weeks of the New Year. Hopefully, any “spiritual” which are made this year become a permanent part of one’s life (myself included).

Have a Happy New Year!
